arroll County Public Schools sponsors an AmeriCorps program, Reading for Life.
It is a literacy tutoring program serving nine Carroll County schools, K – 9. Twenty-four tutors are available to offer one on one or small group reading instruction.
The purpose of the program is not only to offer tutoring instruction but to make education awards available to the tutors.
This program is unique because it is sponsored by a public school system and it is in a rural area. Most AmeriCorp literacy programs are in urban areas and/or sponsored by an institution of higher learning.
